Why Care Homes Need a Legionella Risk Assessment
Care homes residents can be more vulnerable to Legionnaires' disease, making effective water safety and management especially important. During an assessment, we consider features such as:
- Resident bedrooms and en-suite facilities: We assess hot and cold water outlets throughout accommodation areas.
- Communal bathrooms and showers: Shared facilities can have frequent use and need suitable controls.
- Infrequently used outlets: Taps or showers in empty rooms can allow water to stagnate.
- Hot water systems: Boilers, storage cylinders and associated pipework are considered as part of the assessment.
- Changes in occupancy: Vacant rooms, refurbishment work or changes to how an area is used can affect the level of risk.
